About Mocha CE TN3270

Mocha CE TN3270 is an application for the Microsoft CE Windows platform. It makes it possible to connect to an IBM Mainframe with the TN3270 protocol and emulate a 3270 Display Station

Functionality

 

Menu system

From the right corner of the TN3270 window, it is possible to tap on the menu elements: File, Fx and Keys. Fx is used to access IBM Mainframe Function keys and Keys contains a set of other standard 3270 keys.

In the following we will describe the file menu elements in details.

All parameters in the configuration are saved in the CE registry.

Menu - Connect/Disconnect

Use this command to create a new connection to an IBM Mainframe host or terminate a session.

  • IBM Mainframe Host: Name of the host. Either an TCP/IP address as 155.22.11.2 or a symbolic name.

    Advanced:

    Menu - Font

    The list is the non proportionally spaced fonts available in your system. On some CE systems there will only be a single font available.

    Menu - Properties

    The properties dialog can be split into 3 or 4 pages (depends on your device type)

    Menu - Properties - keyboard layout (only CE devices with a keyboard)

    A CE device can include a keyboard, and such a keyboard can include different sets of keys.
    In the left box (3270 functions) is a list of all the 3270 functions which can be mapped to a key. Click on a 3270 function, and the right box will show the keystroke which can be used to activate the given 3270 function.

    The buttons Remove and Add can be used to modify the layout.

    Menu - Properties - license

    After ordering Mocha CE TN3270 from MochaSoft, a license key will be received.
    Enter the key together with the Company Name given on the Order.
    As there is link between the Company name and license key it is important to enter both very careful.

    If the program reports "Wrong type of License key" , please check:

    The license dialog box should look as:

    Where you should replace "mycompany" and "B1234" with the information from the License letter.

    Menu - Properties - Other

    Hide status bar Select if the status bar with cursor position should be displayed.
    Screen follows cursor Defines if the screen should scroll to follow the cursor
    Bell If a sound should be given if the IBM Mainframe application sends a bell message
    Show negotiation Should only be used if looking for a problem. The telnet protocol will be shown.
    Tap = ENTERA tap on the screen will put the cursor at the tap position, and send an ENTER key command to the IBM Mainframe.

    A list of the most common EBCDIC codepages. Click on the codepage, your IBM Mainframe uses.

    Menu - Properties - Toolbar Icons

    The toolbar next to the menu display a list of icons. It is possible to swap between 3 different toolbars using the arrow left icon. Tap on a element in one of the 3 lists of functions, to enable or disable a function for a toolbar. A function with a "v" in front is enabled.

    Menu - Auto Login

    Use this command to define an user id and a password for the Sign On screen on the IBM Mainframe.

    Please notice there is not much security involved doing it! It could be an idea to contact the system administrator to verify it is your company politic to have open access to the system without any password security.

    Menu - Reset Configuration

    This function will after a few warnings reset the configuration to the factory setting for Mocha CE TN3270. Hereafter it will stop TN3270, and you must restart the program to load the new configuration.

    Menu - Colors

    It is possible to customize most colors in Mocha CE TN3270. Select a color with the mouse and click OK. The number of possible colors depends of the hardware configuration. Most colors should not be changed from there default values.

    Color Select gives the color of the area selected with the pen in a Copy operation.

    Menu - About

    Use this command to display license and version number of your copy of Mocha CE TN3270

    2.7 Menu - help

    Use this command to view the help files online.

    2.8 Menu - Exit

    Use this command to stop Mocha CE TN3270.

    Mocha CE TN3270 includes a default keyboard layout. Not all CE devices will have these keys.

    Status bar

    The status bar has following format:

    mode action key row column message insert-mode

    mode:
    offline (OFF) no connection
    request (REQ) TN3270 has asked the CE OS to create a connection
    online (ON) session with the IBM Mainframe

    status:
    ASCII MODE (ASCII) If connected to a normal Telnet Host.
    X-WAIT (X-WAIT) Data has been send to the IBM Host, and a new picture is expected
    X - WRONG INPUT (ERROR) Cannot accept input at the cursor position

    License system

    There are two different types of license.

    A company license can be used by a single company. If there are branch offices or home workstations, a single company license will be valid. For a multi-national company, we must ask for a company license for each country.

     

    Swap tool bars

    Mocha CE TN3270 includes 3 different toolbars. Select the next tool bar using the left arrow icon button. In the default configuration it is the icon next to the menu.

     

    Remove TIMING MARK

    If strange TN_TIMING_MARK statements are displayed sometimes on the tn3270 screen, it is because option Show Negotiation in property - other menu has been enabled.
